Dummy rummy

One of the variants of rummy is Dummy Rummy. It can be played with 2 to 4 players. It is played with two regular decks of cards, together with four jokers, for a total of 108 cards. The jokers and twos are wild.

Each player is dealt thirteen cards. The object is to complete the selected meld set and dispose of as many cards as possible. When one player gets rid of all of their cards, the cards remaining in the rest of the players’ hands gain penalty points. The winner is the one, who finishes all twelve meld sets with the least points wins.

Just like other rummy games, melds comprise of either sets of equal cards, or runs of successive cards. Wild cards may be replaced with any number of cards in a set or run.
The 12 meld sets to be completed by every player are as follows:

  1. Three sets of three
  2. Set of three, run of seven
  3. Two sets of three, run of four
  4. Two sets of three
  5. Set of three, run of four
  6. Two sets of four
  7. Two runs of four
  8. Set of four, run of four
  9. Two sets of five
  10. Two runs of five
  11. Set of eight
  12. Run of ten

If a player not able to finish the appointed meld set, they have to try once more on the next hand.
