Florida rummy

Florida or Ten Step Rummy is a multi-player, multi-round card game. It is a variant of Rummy that inserts aspects like buying and going out, and is perhaps most similar to Liverpool Rummy.

Florida rummy is played with multiple 52-card decks of playing cards with jokers. Generally, the game is played with one deck for every two players (i.e. 6 players use 3 decks). If there are an odd number of players, decks should be rounded up. Aces are high. Deuces (2s) and jokers are wild.

In the first round, the dealer is decided by every player drawing a card from the deck. Least card deals normally. The dealer deals an eleven-card hand to each player. After dealing, one card is placed face-up in the center which is known as the discard pile.

The remaining cards of the pack is placed face-down and is called the deck or down pile. The player to the dealer’s right cuts. He then leaves the exact amount of remaining cards to deal plus one for the upcard. The player to the dealer’s immediate left plays first. On each turn, players have to draw either the (face-up) top card of the discard pile (provided that a player has not just bought from that pile) or one card from the deck.

That player must discard one card from their hand onto the discard pile. Play progresses in alternating turns moving clockwise until one player goes out. Points are tallied and registered by a score-keeper. All of the cards are then shuffled and the next round of play begins.
