Oklahoma Gin
Oklahoma Gin, closely related to Gin Rummy, is a 2-player game which involves the use of standard 52-card deck. The goal of an Oklahoma Gin player is to earn points by collecting sets. A game consists of several rounds but could have more rounds if a draw occurs.
In Oklahoma Gin, an Ace is usually regarded as a card with high points. The Ace’s worth is 1 point; cards with numbers are worth their face values while a face card equals 10 points.
Players that deal the first rounds are randomly selected, and winners of first rounds automatically deal the next rounds. Dealers share 10 cards to each player after shuffling the deck and the next card is placed face-up at the centre of the table to begin the discard pile.
The importance of this card is enormous as it determines a player’s maximum points from the cards in such a player’s hand upon knocking. For instance, a player may knock with 8 points or less if it’s an 8; a player could choose to knock with 3 points or fewer if it’s a 3 and so on. The remaining deck of cards, placed face-down beside the discard pile, form a stock/draw pile.
During the game play, the 2 Oklahoma Gin players take turn to play with each player making two moves: taking a card (either from the draw pile or the discard pile) and discarding a card by placing it face-up on the discard pile’s top. A game consists of many rounds with each round ending when a player knocks.
Knocking occurs when a player is able to form sets, have the maximum number of points left in his hand, and even discard a card. Upon knocking plus discarding, a player who knocks puts together and places all his cards face-up on the gaming table; likewise the opponent. A player chooses to either knock or keep playing so as to develop a better hand.
A draw occurs when the following happens: a player discards when no player knocks, after which two cards are left in the draw pile. If subsequent games end in a draw, more rounds are played until a player attains a total score of 100 points; then, the player emerges winner.
